The Aero Club of South Africa is Proud to host yet another Airweek in Middelburg, Mpumalanga and this one is going to be something out of the ordinary, for the first time it will be incorporating a full blown Airshow as well as many other activities.
Thursday 7 March
Thursday has been set aside for arrivals, it’s the perfect opportunity to catch up with old friends and meet new ones. Very informal day of fun with likeminded people, the day will be closed off with a evening Bon Fire and a Braai.
Friday 8 March
We expect more arrivals on Friday throughout the day, breakfast will be served on the airfield followed by Test flights for the SAPFA Speed Rally which will be held on Saturday. There will be a Drone Racing course set up for all to enjoy, the speed at which these machines negotiate the course is really something to witness.
The Safety-First Aviator programme will be kicking off their 2019 campaign at the Airweek. This should definitely not be missed as their talks are very informative and the knowledge shared may one day help to keep you alive.
SAPFA will be hosting a Speed Rally Training session, even if you didn’t manage to get entered in this speed rally the training will help you in other events like the Presidents Trophy Air Race, The format used for the speed Rallies will be adopted for the PTAR.
The newest Airshow display team known as the MAD team will fly a demonstration in their Weigh-Shift Trikes, the MAD team made their Airshow debut at AAD2019 last year. They will be followed by a Paramotor team, Team Epic is a team of some of the best Paramotor pilots in South Africa.
After the day’s activities everyone is once again invited to a Braai, the SAPFA “Briefing on Steroids” will take place after the braai. All the Speed Rally competitors will receive their race numbers at a very hi-energy event. To cap off a busy day live entertainment will keep the brave on the go until late in the evening.
Saturday 9 March
Breakfast will be served and a few more arrivals are expected. At 7:30 the Speed Rally loggers will be handed out to all the speedsters. A Briefing for all the participants in the Rally will be held then its Race time. The first aircraft is expected to get airborne at 10:00, the Start to a Speed Rally is quite exciting as all aircraft line up according to their handicap and take off at pre-determined times sometimes there are more than one taking off simultaneously. The slower aircraft leave first and if they fly a perfect route all the aircraft will arrive at exactly the same time.
