Argentine Army Aviation Receives First DA62 MPP Aircraft

Diamond Aircraft handed over the first DA62 MPP aircraft for the Argentine Army Aviation (Comando de Aviación de Ejército, AvEj). The state-of-the-art aircraft comes specially equipped with a survey set-up for Argentina’s National Geographic Institute (Instituto Geográfico Nacional, IGN) and will significantly advance AvEj and IGN’s ability to conduct precise and efficient aerial surveys and geographic data collection.

The DA62 MPP (Multi-Purpose Platform) is renowned for its versatility, fuel efficiency, and sophisticated avionics. The survey set-up procured by AvEj includes cutting-edge technology for geospatial data collection, including high-resolution cameras and LiDAR sensors provided through Diamond Aircraft’s valued partnerships with leading suppliers Vexcel, Riegl and IGI.

The integrated Vexcel Ultracam Eagle MK3 is a high-resolution camera offering unparalleled imaging capabilities. It provides detailed and accurate aerial imagery, essential for high-quality mapping and analysis.

The aircraft is also equipped with a VQ-780 II LiDAR sensor from Riegl, known for its precision and reliability. This powerful LiDAR technology enables the collection of accurate elevation data, crucial for topographic mapping, infrastructure planning, and environmental monitoring. The flight guidance and sensor management software comes from market-leading German geospatial company IGI.

The introduction of the DA62 MPP is a significant milestone for the Argentine Army Aviation and will enhance national capabilities in geographic data collection, disaster response, environmental monitoring, and infrastructure development. The aircraft will play a crucial role in supporting government initiatives aimed at improving urban planning, agricultural management, and natural resource conservation.

Coronel Julio Orlando Morillas, Director of the Argentine Army Aviation, expressed his enthusiasm for the new addition: "The DA62 MPP aircraft is a game changer for our operations. Its advanced technology and versatility will greatly enhance our survey and reconnaissance capabilities, allowing us to better serve the needs of our nation. We are excited to see the positive impact this aircraft will have on our missions, which among others will be to provide service in collaboration with the National Geographic Institute.

Jerome Berg, Sales Manager of Diamond Aircraft Special Mission Division, said: “The handover of this trailblazing DA62 MPP configuration to the Argentine Army Aviation is the culmination of much hard work and innovation by all involved and a big moment for us. We look forward to seeing the edge this uniquely equipped aircraft gives to AvEj’s geodesy and aerial survey activities and thank them for placing their faith in Diamond Aircraft to deliver.”

The Argentine Army Aviation will operate the DA62 MPP, ensuring that the full potential of this pioneering aircraft is realized in service of the country's needs.
