Following certification by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the HondaJet Elite II has become the first production model twin-turbine Very Light Jet (VLJ) to feature autothrottle functionality. This milestone allows Honda Aircraft Company to activate autothrottle on production aircraft, marking a significant advancement in the automation of Honda's innovative aircraft, renowned in the aviation sector for its advanced cockpit technology.
An autothrottle system is specifically designed to automate the regulation of the aircraft's speed and thrust during flight. Once the necessary flight parameters are established and the autothrottle is activated, the HondaJet's Garmin G3000® avionics system assumes control of the throttle operations. It continuously monitors and adjusts engine output based on sensor data to maintain the desired speed, thereby reducing the pilot's workload and enhancing passenger comfort. Pilots operating HondaJet Elite II aircraft equipped with autothrottle capabilities can choose to utilize these controls throughout different flight phases, beginning from takeoff and continuing until the landing phase.
“The HondaJet is a design that has consistently pushed the bounds of what is possible,” said Honda Aircraft Company President and CEO Hideto Yamasaki. “We anticipate that the addition of this functionality to the HondaJet Elite II will offer customers a new way to experience the joy of flight, following Honda’s principles as a developer of mobility solutions. We are very appreciative of our customers, who have not only shared their excitement but also waited patiently for this development.”
The autothrottle in the HondaJet Elite II is a significant advancement that is set to improve the experience for owners and operators. Particularly beneficial for single-pilot operations, the expanded automation control offers a simplified flying experience, allowing operators to enjoy the freedom of the sky. For these customers, the autothrottle serves as a valuable productivity tool that will boost efficiency in the cockpit.
The HondaJet Elite II represents the newest advancement in the HondaJet series, a small business jet crafted by the Honda Aircraft Company based in Greensboro, North Carolina. With a legacy spanning nine years in the aviation industry, the HondaJet Elite II stands out as a top contender in the small business jet category. It surpasses its counterparts by flying at greater speeds, longer distances, and higher altitudes. Featuring the distinctive Over-the-Wing Engine Mount (OTWEM), this aircraft enhances both its external performance attributes and passenger comfort.
The HondaJet Elite II brings new control features to the HondaJet family, aiming to decrease crew workload and enhance passenger comfort even more.
