Robinson Helicopter Company has recently obtained FAA approval for its latest empennage design that has been incorporated in its R22 helicopter. This new certification ensures that Robinson's entire range of helicopters is now certified by the FAA. The latest empennage design includes a symmetric horizontal stabilizer and tailcone, which has now become the standard in all newly manufactured Robinson helicopters.
In addition to the R44 and R66, Robinson will offer a retrofit kit for existing R22 owners. Just like previous empennages kits, the forthcoming retrofit kit for the R22 will be available at a discounted rate through the end of December 2024 at your authorized Robinson Dealer, Service Center or by calling Robinson Helicopter customer service. The retrofit kit allows the installation of the new symmetrical stabilizer on the existing tailcones in the field without requiring a complete tailcone replacement.
In addition to the discounted retrofit kit, Robinson is offering a limited-time offer on new R22 helicopters. The company is offering a 10% discount on three or more new R22 helicopters to empower the growth of the global pilot community. All applicable incentives apply in addition to this limited-time offer. The promotion is valid until midnight, Friday, June 30th, 2024.
This year also marks the 45th anniversary of Robinson’s iconic two-seat R22 helicopter. In March 1979, Robinson received its initial FAA certification for this light helicopter, which has been enshrined in the Smithsonian Museum since September 2004.
From flight training to agricultural work, wildlife management to surveying, Robinson helicopters have become synonymous with how challenging missions are accomplished. With nearly 30 million hours flown globally (according to RHC estimates), the R22 has solidified its position as one of the best-selling civil rotorcrafts in the world. More than 80 R22s over 40 years old are still in service.
“This certification underscores Robinson Helicopter Company’s dedication to engineering enhancements that make our aircraft more accessible and easier to fly,” said David Smith, president and CEO of Robinson Helicopter Company. By doing so, we unlock even more opportunities for the next generation to experience the joy of flight and build long careers in aviation.”
The Robinson R22 series bridges the gaps between people, places, and possibilities. Operators worldwide leverage the R22’s exceptional accessibility, efficiency, and effectiveness to accomplish any mission.
With a legacy of accessibility, reliability, and versatility, the R22 revolutionized the personal helicopter market. Many of the world’s rotorcraft pilots and flight schools begin their journeys in an R22. This versatile helicopter equips pilots with the critical skills and foundation necessary for a thriving career in aviation.
